Why We Chose Harbour’s Edge for Luxury Independent Senior Living

There’s much to consider when evaluating options for this next chapter of your life. Long-term care preferences, your financial situation and the type of lifestyle you desire all factor into the decision. Add in the different independent senior living communities near you, and it can be hard to know where to begin. That’s why we asked some of our Harbour’s Edge residents to share their stories of making the move to luxury independent senior living right here in Delray Beach.

What to Consider When Making the Move to a Retirement Community

For many residents, making the choice to move to a senior independent living community takes time. We recommend touring at least three different communities in your area to get a better feel for each campus and try and picture yourself living there. If that’s something you can see, the next step is to get more information about the factors that are important to you, like health care options, entrance fees, amenities and proximity to family and friends.

Howard Ehrlich agrees. “Do your homework,” he recommends. “Visit as many communities as you can and determine what is important to you. Check the activities, size of the apartments, location, food service and quality, etc.”

Howard and his wife conducted diligent research over two years before landing at Harbour’s Edge. After visiting approximately 15 other venues, they ultimately decided on Harbour’s Edge for its stunning physical location on Florida’s intracoastal waterway, proximity to friends and to local shopping and, of course, the Harbour’s Edge community.

For Sue Riben, the process looked different. “I had visited a friend in the health center many years before,” she says, “but was so impressed with the facility, that I thought if someday we decided to move to independent living, Harbour’s Edge would be our pick.” However, It wasn’t until Sue attended a luncheon at Harbour’s Edge and sat with a resident who advised her not to wait that she got serious about making the move.

Now, Sue passes along the same advice to other older adults considering making the move to independent living. “Don’t wait. This is a wonderful place to live and the longer you wait, the harder it will be making the decision and making the move.”

Whether you’re still discussing what you envision for the next chapter of your life or you’re actively evaluating nearby communities, our team understands the process looks different for everyone. We’re here to provide you with all the information you need to make an informed decision about where you want to be.

Choosing a Life Care Community

As a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), we offer a Type A Life Care contract. That means that you’ll pay a one-time entrance fee upon moving to our community, and then one flat fee every month after that, which covers all amenities and healthcare costs. Should you or your spouse require additional healthcare or support, you can have peace of mind knowing those costs are already covered.

Many residents cite this financial and medical security as a reason for moving to a Life Care independent living community. Howard says, “we think our sons are pleased with the decision which alleviates stress for all down the road.”

Making the Move to Independent Living

With a contract signed, a closing date established and all qualifying paperwork complete, the work of packing and downsizing begins. For some, this process can be overwhelming, with years of belongings and sentimental items to sort through, but our goal is to make every component of your move as seamless as possible. Our move-in coordinator will gladly come to your home to help you evaluate what furnishings will fit in your new space and set you up with a moving company and help iron out the finer details of the move.

Howard and his wife met with the Harbour’s Edge decorator to determine what furniture would go where in their new apartment and what items would not fit. “We also used the moving company recommended by Harbour’s Edge,” he adds. “They packed and moved everything with no problem.  We have moved many times in our life and this was the absolute easiest and best move.”

Once the hustle and bustle of moving day is behind you, take your time to settle in, and know, as with any change, it can take some time to get acclimated. Howard acknowledges this. “I acclimated to the community a lot quicker than my wife,” he says. “ It took her a few months to find her place.”

Over your first few weeks, team members and neighbors alike will stop by to welcome you and get to know you better. You’ll find there’s a place for everyone in our vibrant community. “Meeting and becoming friends with fellow residents has been a joy,” Howard says. “Dinner is our favorite time of day when we share a meal and chat with interesting and wonderful people.”

Sue adds the Harbour’s Edge community feels like a large family. “Friendships, support and care of team members — it’s all these important things that make life here terrific!”

A year after the Ehrlich’s move, Howard and his wife are both confident they made the right decision to move to Harbour’s Edge. “We love the lifestyle, care and security provided.”
